Results depend on the detail and complexity of the original image; logos, lettering, and line art are often good candidates.

Graphic Design File Formats Explained
Vector artwork uses paths and shapes that stay sharp when enlarged. Raster artwork uses pixels and is suited to photographs, textures, and detailed imagery. Here’s how common file formats fit into the design and printing process.
| Format | What It’s Used For |
|---|---|
| Sharing layouts and supplying print-ready artwork. Can contain vector graphics, raster images, or both. | |
| PSD — Photoshop | Editing photographs and layered raster designs. Keeping layers can make revisions easier. |
| AI — Illustrator | Native Illustrator design files, commonly used for editable vector logos, lettering, and illustrations. May also contain raster images. |
| EPS | A legacy format often used for vector logos and graphics. Can also contain raster artwork. |
| SVG | Scalable vector graphics for logos, icons, and illustrations. Print compatibility depends on the printer’s workflow. |
| PNG | Raster graphics with support for transparent backgrounds. Useful for digital artwork; print suitability depends on resolution. |
| JPEG / JPG | Flattened photographs and raster images. Compression keeps files smaller but can reduce detail. |
| TIFF | High-quality raster artwork and photographs, often used in print production. Files can be large. |
The file extension alone doesn’t determine print quality. Saving a low-resolution image as a PDF or EPS won’t make it sharper or turn it into vector artwork. Our team can help assess your files and prepare them for your display’s printing requirements.
